Fixing The Back Porch

by Jon Katz

The back porch is really the soul of our farm in some ways, the cats and chickens hang out there, and it home to Maria’s beautiful gardens.

The slate was coming apart (salt is no good for slate in the winter, we’re switching to sand) but it was looking a bit like Dogpatch out there. Chris came with his assistant and is putting in some concrete.

He wants to replace all the slate, and we’ll get to that later on. It always feels good to work on our farm and the farmhouse.

We just have to keep the dogs away for a day or so while the concrete dries.

  1. Hi…Enjoy your blog and, as a fellow writer/blogger, I’m impressed with your ability to post interesting content daily. I’m winding down on other projects to devote more time to my new blog, DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD. It is an important part of who I am as a writer and animal advocate. I appreciate seeing another writer so well focused.

I live in the Pacific Northwest, but started out as a NY girl with family still farming Upstate.
    Best,
    Carole

    1. Good luck Carole, I’m not sure focus is the right word for me but I love my blog and good luck to you with yours..j

    2. Carole, I also live in the Pacific Northwest, but grew up in upstate NY near where Jon Katz lives. Is there a link for your blog?
You have found a great mentor Thanks, Jon for your blog – I have been following it for years! It has been especially helpful now and I love the political essays. My 4th and 5th grade teacher was named Cuomo, lol, and I remember her as passionate and caring.
PS I always look for “Army of Good” bumper stickers. Of course, I have one!

  2. Thank you for saying such kind words about my son Nicholas Lloyd (Nicky) . I am very proud of the kind, caring person that he is. Enjoy your new car!

    1. Hey mom, so nice to hear from you, I see you are are a proud mother and for good reason. You did a great job raising Nicky. He is an honest and caring and very competent person. Thanks for writing to me, it was a pleasure to write about him. He didn’t once make me feel stupid and when it comes to cars, I am quite stupid! Best to you..
