Waiting For Me

by Jon Katz

I get up early, Zinnia follows me out to the car and jumps in, we were going to the woods.

She runs ahead, after a rabbit or a deer, she is out of sight, I hear her thrashing up ahead in the woods.  I start to call her back, then stop. I trust her.

I am lost in thought, leaving her to be free.

When I round the corner, she is standing there, looking back,

waiting for me.
