The Do Good Report Wednesday, April 30, 2020

by Jon Katz

This is the season of good, we are doing good in a focused and reasoned way, I am proud of us, we are rising to the moment in big and small ways. Thank you. Today, a partial list of the things we are doing.

We are boosting the morale of health care workers, making sure the refugee families have food, disinfecting the Mansion in a modern and efficient way, getting toys and learning books for the children of the Mansion aides, trapped at home for weeks now.

I am working harder than ever, and am happier than ever. How wonderful to be given this opportunity to help people, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Debbie (above)  is a staffer who comes regularly to the Mansion to sing with the residents and play songs for them.

Like me, she is barred from coming inside right now, so she set up her keyboard just outside the Great Room and played for them. Some went onto the porch, some listened inside – it was raining.

Maria and I are making another banner to hang outside the window, I think it will say “We Miss You. See You Soon.”

This week, we hope to get the Disinfectant Fogger up and running, perhaps even today.

Friday, we are delivering a sandwich lunch to the residents.

Today, we are delivering an Ice Cream Sundae kit to the residents.

Today, I ordered three more painting kits for the Mansion residents.

Today, I’m bringing Peggie speakers for her laptop at the Mansion.

Today, I’m bringing Nathan McKenzie and his son Broday a make-your-own railroad kit.

Yesterday, we raised more than $1,500 for a refugee family in great need. The money will go for groceries and to buy the family some time to get their benefit restored.

Today, I’ve arranged for three good-sized catering lunches from Jean’s Place.

Today, I’m bringing Kelsie some wild leggings from an artist in England. Identity.

Today, we are continuing the gift cards program for refugee families. Your gift cards are keeping the families from going hungry. I’m keeping this program going. Make sure to send any gift cards you buy to me, Jon Katz, 2502 State Route 22, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.

Yesterday I got a pair or orthopedic walking shoes for the aching feet of Sue Silverstein, who walks eight miles a day delivering gift cards and other help to the students refugee families in her school.  I was informed her own walking shoes were falling apart.

Today, I am sending battery/charging cables to Bishop Maginn High School for their mobile classroom program.

Today, I am ordering more toys for the children of the Mansion aides, trapped at home for weeks now.

Every evening this week, I’m ordering special sandwiches for the Mansion’s overnight shift, they love chicken tenders, bbq, onion rings, veggie wraps, etc. A morale boost.
