Jean’s Place: The Little Restaurant That Could

by Jon Katz

Jean’s Place is a tough place, Kevin, Kelly, and Kelsie (get the K’s?) come in way before down, Kevin makes and bakes his own bread. They are chugging along if they don’t drop from exhaustion.

I brought Kevin $260 payment for the great lunch he prepared for the Mansion residents last Friday – sandwiches, and pies. They are tired but their spirits are strong, their food is good, and the people of Hoosick Falls love them.

I brought home a BLT wrap, a turkey wrap for Maria, a slice of Raspberry Pie, and a slice of Strawberry Rhubarb. I hope they get to re-open soon, the governor is talking about opening up around here on May 15.

I love doing selfies with Kevin, his face is dripping character.

  1. They’ve said that restaurants are going to be the very last things that open, because the chance of infection there is so high. If they start with construction and such and wait two weeks in between each phase, I think that the earliest we’ll see restaurants in upstate New York will be sometime in late July.

  2. Don’t take strawberry – rhubarb pie for granted. We enjoyed them in the Midwest, but they are not generally available down here in the South. Believe it is something from the colder climes. Good luck for Jean’s Place.
