Robin’s Mask

by Jon Katz

I love watching artists and creative people add color and light to the world beyond, even to suffering and difficulty. My daughter Emma has been wanting Robin to wear a mask in Brooklyn, mostly to protect other people.

She hasn’t pushed it, but she jumped at the idea of Maria making a mask, Robin might be more inclined to wear one. So Maria said she’d love to, and she made Robin this wonderful mask that she might want to wear.

I love being married to an artist, it’s a river of creativity around here, thanks mostly to Maria. One or the other of us is creating something all the time.

Notes From Social Media.

I wrote a piece posted early this morning about why it isn’t a good thing to hate Donald Trump or anybody. Two of the first responses:

Charlotte: By writing things like this you still are causing people to hate because you are still pointing out his shortcomings. If you want love instead of hate just move forward and leave the judging to someone else. God is love, people learn to hate.

Lisa: It’s quite possible you may publicly share/shame me but that doesn’t bother me so I’ll say what I think every time I see these posts and usually don’t say. I wish that you’d stick to anything, absolutely anything but politics. Maybe you’re trying to “start a conversation ” but I’ve noticed that nobody is changing their minds, it’s just provocative, just people doubling down in their own foxhole. Don’t you realize how exhausted everyone is with anxiety and anger these days? You’re in such a great position to be a ray of sunshine and hope with your animals, that’s why we all started reading your books and blog but you’ve chosen to be just another voice telling me not to hate…I don’t hate Trump or anybody, I hate pot stirring and politics.

  1. I’ve found your comments re: DJ and, especially, about people who support him – helpful to remind me that people have different ways of looking at things – most people want the best not just for themselves, but for the nation. Every President, starting with George Washington, has taken ‘flack’ from the press, which is how it should be.
