I got another stack of Price Chopper Gift Cards today, the front lines of our effort to feed the refugee students at Bishop Maginn High School and their families during the rockiest of times.
The Refugee Gift Card program is an amazing thing, it has caught fire and is helping a lot of people in the most urgent and critical need. Sue Silverstein has three categories of need when it comes to distributing these gift cards: Critical Need, Urgent Need, and Pleas From People Who Have Never Before Asked For Help.
I call it our “Conspiracy Of Love.”
You can see and purchase a gift card here in any amount. If you choose to purchase one to feed the refugee families, it will need to come to my address, Jon Katz, 2502 State Route 22, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.
Packages aren’t getting through to Bishop Maginn, and gift cards can’t go to post office boxes.
If you would prefer to send a donation to me, I will buy the cards, those can come through Paypal, [email protected], or by check, Jon Katz, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816, or Jon Katz, 2502 State Route 22, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.
And thank you. Sue says she has never seen such need. We are really making a difference, I’ve seen some of the letters of gratitude, they lift the heart and break it at the same time. Check out the gift cards here.

I am sharing some of the messages I am getting now, I got this message from Rosemary, who lives in Marengo, Illinois. She sent $500.
“Please use these funds where they will do the most good,” she wrote. “My heart goes out to everyone you help, so I could not decide. I love Kelsie’s energy and empathize with the high school students, but the needy people from your tiny (free) library – the need is everywhere and humbling. Thanks for taking care of your corner of the world.”
Thanks, Rosemary, I will see that your generosity is used thoughtfully and well, some help for the Mansion, some gift cards I will purchase. And I’ll keep supporting Kelsie and her family diner.
My corner of the world has become everybody’s corner in some ways, through them, we can understand need and vulnerability and learn how to help. I am grateful to you for your trust, your humility, and your compassion.
The need is overwhelming, and this is why I focus on small groups of people, it gives us a way to help without being overwhelmed ourselves. And your $500 will help a lot. I am blown away by the generosity and compassion out there.
