I Talk To Dancing Clotheslines

by Jon Katz

I talk to Dancing Clotheslines. There, I’ve said it. Dancing clotheslines (they dance in the wind) are iconic to me, they speak of continuity, self-reliance, and domesticity.

Whenever you see a dancing clothesline you know there is someone in that home who cares about simplicity, frugality and Mother Earth Either that or they are just too poor to buy a washing machine.

Yesterday, the Dancing Clothesline talk back to me, and said, “just look to the other side,  like the rainbow says.”

  1. The clothesline: nature’s wind powered clothes dryer. It doesn’t get more eco friendly than that. This brings back memories of my mom who would always hang clothes out to dry unless the weather was bad … And that wonderful fresh air fragrance!

  2. There is nothing better than going to sleep in a bed with clean sheets, dried on the clothesline. Heaven!
