The Rainbow Connection. Starting At The Mansion

by Jon Katz

We finished our Rainbow this afternoon, all that remains is for us to paint “We Love You” in red letters over the top and bring it to the Mansion tomorrow morning at ll a.m.

We thank the children of Boston, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia for thinking of making “connection” rainbows and posting them on windows and social media to connect with their friends they miss.

In Brookly and Fishtown Philadelphia, kids go on a walking tour using rainbow maps to find their classmates and friends and let them know they miss them and care about them.

It occurred to me this is just as applicable for nursing homes and assisted care facilities whose residents have been cut off from all visitors even their families for weeks now, maybe even months.

So I’m pushing a mini-movement.

Tomorrow,  we’re bringing this banner to the Mansion tomorrow and will hang it on a wall facing the main Mansion Great Hall Window. I’ve also sent the rainbow Connection to Bishop Maginn’s Art Class, I bet they have some ideas about rainbows, I’m sure I’ll hear from them.

The rainbow is a great symbol to remind us that we are all connected to one another, getting to the other side of the rainbow is a powerful idea in popular culture.

I hope this love virus is contagious, if you or your loved ones decided to do this, please send a photo to me at [email protected] and I’ll post some of them up on the blog.
