Maria and I are working together on the Rainbow Connection, a fledgling movement started by children in Brooklyn and Philadelphia to connect the friends they miss and are thinking of.
Kids are putting rainbows in their windows to remind us that we are not alone; we are all together in this struggle with the coronavirus. Many of us are staying inside of our homes, shut out of our schools and workplaces, or quarantined in nursing homes and assisted care.
Picasso said all children are born artists, adulthood leeches creativity out of them.
We are making this rainbow poster for the Mansion, and for Bishop Maginn’s students, they miss their friends and teachers. The Mansion residents have been cooped up for days now, and we want them to know we think of them and care about them, even if we can’t go inside.
We’re bringing the poster to the Mansion at ll a.m. Monday (me, Maria, Zinnia) and Sue Silverstein is going to make some with her art classes in the Mobile Classroom Bishop Maginn has set up with students at home.
Maybe they’ll each put a rainbow in their windows, or send one to each other online.
We are having a great time doing this on the dining room table (too chilly to paint outside). Doing some good is healing, uplifting, and fends off fear and grievance.
I love the rainbow project. We are all in this together, and the rainbow reminds us that there is always the other side to get to. They are easy to make.
If you or your children or grandchildren make one, send it to me, [email protected], I’ll put some of them up.
How Wonderful!!
