Sunday Message From Zinnia! Making A Rainbow Flag…

by Jon Katz

I’m sitting in my study on this very gorgeous Spring Sunday, blue skies, lots of fun and giving thanks for my life. I have good news. All sorts of good things on the menu here.

Thanks to a very generous person named Kathleen, we’ve now purchased 19 of the 20 laptops for Bishop Maginn’s Mobile Classroom.

Now, all of the students (I’m buying the 20th shortly) who need a laptop will have one as they wait in their homes for school to open up again.

Now, all of the refugee and inner-city students at the school can keep on learning.

In addition, I’ve sent nearly $1,000 in supermarket gift certificates to Sue Silverstein to distribute to the Bishop Maginn refugee students and their families struggling to get enough food.

We could use all the food gift certificates we can get, details here. This is the critical period, I think.

If purchased, they have to be mailed to my home address: 2502 State Route 22, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816, gift cards can’t be sent to post office boxes.

These families are really beginning to suffer now, they are losing their minimum wage jobs to the coronavirus.

I am keenly aware that this is a challenging time for all of us, your generosity and compassion are especially appreciated now. You can purchase the gift cards in any amount you can handle.

I woke up this morning to the presence of Zinnia on my chest in bed, sending her message of joy and love. She is the perfect dog for me to have right now, the perfect therapy dog.

She crept forward and licked me on the face for the longest time. It was a beautiful way to start the day.

When I look at her I smile, and I feel warmth and light. I think she’ll do the same for you. Therapy dogs can work from home.

This is a hard time, but not only that. Like all hard things, this will pass. Today, Maria and I are making a rainbow flag to bring to the Mansion Monday and show the residents through the window.

I’ll put up photos as we progress.

Rainbow windows are popping up all over the country to connect children and adults with the people they can’t see right now and to show that we are all in this together, at least most of us.

We need some distance from each other now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected.

Look at Zinnia’s eyes and smile.

  1. Dear Mr. Katz,
A Big Howdy from Texas! More Specifically, Granbury Texas. I have been reading your blog for a while and I decided to be brave enough to post a comment. I’m a private person most of the time, but in times like these we all need to feel human in a world that seems all too inhumane. Extraordinary times call for Extraordinary measures, but we can’t let ourselves forget that we all need Extraordinary love too! That’s what I’m sending to you,Maria, and those you care about. Maybe this is the wake up call we needed that will spur is to save our Great Nation and Republic. – Aaron from Texas.
