We almost lost sight of Spring, which comes today and has been drowned out by the dread virus. Here on Bedlam Farm, Vernal Equinox – just before midnight tonight – is a big deal, and we are hauling firewood and dried leaves out to the pasture for a lighting ceremony tonight
This day has always been a profound day for farms and farmers, it signals the beginning of the planting season.
This has become a prized ritual on Bedlam Farm, this is Zinnia’s second such holiday, she made a brief appearance at the Winter Solstice in December when the dark days ended.
We think this year, it’s critical to pause and take note of Spring, the season of color and light, longer days, flowers and more sunshine and warmth. I believe the Spring will bring good news and some release.
When it gets dark, I’ll bring some of my hard cider out and Fate and Zinnia, and we’ll sit by the fire and give Spring the welcome she deserves.
Zinnia has prepared by befriending the sheep and the donkeys. She and Fanny touched noses today, a sign of friendship for donkeys and dogs.
