Sally’s In Her New And Permanent Home. Love Wins One…

by Jon Katz

Sally has begun her new life in Eugene, Oregon. Cathy, her new human. Monday, she flew across the country in a pressurized cabin, same as people, reports Donna Nicosia.

Once home, Sally was given a dinner of homemade chicken soup by Cathy, her new owner. It sounds like she’ll be fine.

Sally apparently weathered the flight well. Donna says that Bette did a “total rehabilitation” of sweet Sally in her month with her.  Donna is stunned by Sally’s transformation.

The dog I knew was neurotic, terrified of people, and at the end, sadly neglected.

She is now, says Donna, “a little lovebug, very alert, healthy and embracing life.”

Donna – Susan Popper’s best friend and Sally’s angel – and I want to thank everyone whose donations made this happy ending to a tragic story possible.

Donna’s e-mail is [email protected]. She loves to get your messages and will be staying in touch with Sally and Cathy.

Sally is reborn, transformed, and is giving rebirth to her life, in the way dogs who are loved sometimes get to do. Thanks so much, Bette, you have a big heart brimming with compassion.

Donna was faithful to Susan at the end.  Susan’s last worry in the world was Sally, I know she regretted not being able to care for her.

It took a lot of work to get Sally healthy and adopted. You are an angel, Donna.

For me, an end to this challenging chapter in my life. I feel that Sally’s rehabilitation and re-homing end this sad story on a hopeful and loving note. I could only help make Susan comfortable as she withered and died, nothing more,  but all of you gave this loyal and loving creature a new shot at life.

I promised Susan Sally would get a good home. It brought her some peace.

For all of its ups and downs, life is good, and there are so many good people in the world. How can one be anything but hopeful?
