I had the great privilege of being at Bishop Maginn today in Sue Silverstein’s classroom to see four or five students come and ask for some lunch. They could choose between oatmeal cups and macaroni n’ cheese. They could have a healthy granola bar for dessert and apple juice to drink.
The food the Army Of Good send spilled out of Sue’s closet and up above on the big shelf. I can’t tell you how happy it made me to see these hungry children get a good meal for free.
Sue said one of them told her the food was a “miracle. All we have to do is ask.” The school is not entitled to any federal money because it is private. A number of the kids were skipping some important meals.
Not any more. Thank you so much, from Sue, from them, from me. Good-doing is the highest form of humanity, I think. I wanted you to see firsthand what you have done.
Tonight, a new wish list to help out with the prom, short, inexpensive and a lot of fun.
We can’t expect hungry children to excell.
