Every afternoon, we go out to the pasture to check on the animals. Today, we are worried about Griselle, who seems confused and anxious these days, I think she’s getting sick.
If she seems to be suffering, I will get my rifle and shoot her in the Pole Barn, it will be quick and humane for her. We will have someone – a friend with a truck – take her out into the woods.
She will return to nature.
But we want to give it more time. When sheep get sick, they rarely recover, and I’ve learned that the large animal vets don’t really know how to treat them. I thought the veterinary euthanasia techniques are harsh, fit for cows, not for sheep.
Feeding time is a peaceful time, grounding and timeless. It centers our lives here, and I never tire of seeing Maria with the donkeys.
Tonight, I’m putting up a sort of emergency Wish List for Bishop Maginn, it’s favors and costume jewelry and artificial flower kits and beads for the school Prom, scheduled for May.
The seniors have wanted these very inexpensive and fun things for years, but have never had the money to buy them. I think we can light up the Prom for very little money.
I recommended doing it now, as the coronavirus seems to be edging ever closer. Bishop Maginn has no plans I know of to shut down, but it makes sense for us to move sooner rather than later.
If the school should close down, I’ve offered to try and help them get some wi-fit hotspots so that they can continue to learn from home. More later. I want to stand with them during this time.
