Squidge: Making Mischief At The Zoo

by Jon Katz

The guides warned us to put our jackets and bags up high on our benches, Squidge could be mischievous and liked to nibble on cloth. They also told us not to get down on the floor unless we wanted to get pooped on.

The penguins at the zoo Sunday were a lot of fun, they were playful and they surely seem to have a sense of humor. There is something funny about penguins, perhaps it’s their waddle.

But they are also full of themselves and bristling with personality.

Squidge went right this coat hanging on the wall – it belonged to a zookeeper. She told me Squidge is always trying to pull it off the hook and often succeeds.

When he gets it off, he proudly parades around with it (like a Lab with a ball) showing everybody what he has. This time, she got to the coat before he got it off the wall.

He sticks his flippers out to steady and balance himself. He was interested in my jeans too but went for the coat instead.
