Journal: Walking In The Afternoon Sun

by Jon Katz

The ice is beginning to melt on our lake, Zinnia is still uneasy plunging into the water, but she is a Lab, she will figure it out. Fate is more adventurous, she is a fearless dog, and would have made a star agility dog.

Zinnia is attached to her and stays with her on our walks. Usually, Maria and Fate walk in the woods, but they came along with us yesterday.

It seems that Zinnia has been with us for a long time, she fits in easily to our lives, she is little trouble and lots of fun.

Even while teething, she never damaged a thing that was not hers. She had an accident or two in the house when she had a urinary infection but was housebroken almost from the first day.

She did come across some old deer bones on the walk, she dropped one when I should “leave it” from a good distance. She’s a sweet and good dog.

She took to the therapy dog training instantly, she has a great following at the Mansion and Bishop Maginn High School. She knows how to light a place up.

I’m going to the Mansion today to do my weekly reading and to Bishop Maginn on Wednesday to bring some macaroni and cheese lunches somebody sent me.

We are planning another modest Wish List next week for Bishop Maginn, this one is for the prom, some simple decorations.  Hopefully, another walk.

More later.

  1. ” Leave it” probably the second most important command to teach a dog (after “Come”)
    Can be a life-saver.
