Sue Silverstein’s Amazing New Paintings

by Jon Katz

I would have given anything to have a teacher like Sue Silverstein when I was a kid, but I’m blessed to have her as a friend. She is a teacher at Bishop Maginn High School and I sometimes get broken up at the love and care she shows for her students.

We have become good friends, Sue has a wonderful sense of humor and is perhaps the most self-effacing human that I know. She is an extraordinary artist, but she never talks about herself and rarely shows her work.

Sue teaches art and theology at her high school, she is well equipped for both. She is a gifted artist and a person of deep and real faith. I am lucky to have her as a friend, and she is one of Zinnia’s chose Godmothers.

She has been approached to send some of her works for a possible show in New Orleans, and I harassed her into sending me two examples of her work. Maria and I both blipped out, they are gorgeous and original and joyous, all at the same time.

She blushes when I ask her if they are for sale, and I don’t know for sure, but they might be.  She is raising money for college for her son.

Her e-mail is [email protected]. Maria and I have been ooing and aaahing over them, and I had to share two of them with you. The emotion and feeling in these paintings is extraordinary.
