Sally Needs Some Help. Vet Bills, Travel To A Home…

by Jon Katz

Susan Popper’s dog Sally got a thorough check at the vet today, the bill was for treatment of a yeast infection, slight heart murmur (new), X-rays, skin infections, general exam, special creams, and shampoos.

She needs an echocardiogram.

The bill for the visit was $320 and we could use some help paying for it. I’ve already contributed $240. The bill is due now.

If you can help or wish to help, you can contact Donna Nicosia  – she is [email protected] – directly, and she can provide the details on how to support Sally and where to send your donation.

Please don’t send to me, it should go directly to Donna.

Kathy Cary, a dog lover in Portland, is keen on flying East to adopt Sally and bring her home on a seat next to her rather than in cargo.

Donna feels this would be a wonderful permanent home for her. I’m not clear on the total travel costs, Donna says the travel costs are approximately $700. Any contributions would be appreciated.

We have contacted the volunteer travel rescue groups suggested, none of them will take a dog across the country. Flying is the best solution, certainly for Sally, who’s had enough excitement.

I think as a group, we can do it comfortably.

We hoped to find a home for Sally closer to home, but it doesn’t really matter at this point, Sally, who is doing beautifully – loving her fosterer, playing with the other dogs  – needs a single person home that is peaceful and quiet.

Sally, says Bette the fosterer, is a sweet and loveable dog, adaptable and affectionate.

I trust Donna completely to make this call, she is [email protected]. Any donation in any amount would be appreciated. Thanks.

  1. Jon have you checked into any of the volunteer groups that fly rescues across the country? I believe one is called pilots for paws(?). These are pilots who volunteer their planes and their time to help get pets to their new homes or to rescues willing to take them in.

    1. Yes, none of them can go cross country with volunteers…they go shorter distances and it is a complex process at that..Sally is going to Portland Oregon from New Jersey..I believe as does Donna the safest and most comfortable way for her to do that — she doesn’t need to be handed off to strangers for days right now – is to be flown in a cabin with her new owner..That’s what we are going to try and do…Donna knows the dog well and I trust her completely.if anyone wishes to contribute, DOnna’s e-mail is [email protected]

  2. I agree with you that it would be very stressful for Sally to be handed off again and again. Glad you checked it out though. Sorry about Susan’s passing, although expected, still sad. You and Donna were so compassionate and kind to her.
