Fate may be the first dog or human creature that Zinnia hasn’t yet figured out how to charm. Like many border collies, Fate is all about work, and her human, Maria, who brings her to work and takes her for walks.

Zinnia is all about fun and love, she constantly brings Fate her toys and shoving them in her face, tail wagging like a helicopter rotor. Fate snarls growls, shows her teeth, nips.

Zinnia is not fazed or deterred. Sometimes, she gets Fate to play a bit, but most of the time, Fate ignores her or moves away. If she can, Fate will steal Zinnia’s treats, Zinnia is content to give them up.

This morning, Zinnia brought Fate her favorite rope toy and Fate lifted her head and ignored her, as usual. But at least she didn’t grow or snap at her. Progress, I suppose. Zinnia never gives up on love.
