The Loyalty Of Dogs

by Jon Katz

Maria was sick last night and slept on the sofa downstairs.

I slept on a chair next to her. Fate climbed up onto the ottoman next to the sofa and spent the night there, watching Maria as she slept.

Her concern and loyalty were evident and uplifting to me. Every time Maria opened her eyes, she saw Fate. I never claim to know what is going on inside of a dog’s brain, but Fate did not leave her side all night.

  1. Maria, Please get well soon. I am so happy to see how much Fate loves you and wants to be near you. Rest well!

  2. Jon and Maria, I too had a bad fall a month ago- I fell on black ice on my driveway – broke 3 toes and fractured my pelvic bone. They told me at St Peters Hospital. ER that I wouldn’t need surgery, which is a good thing. I am doing better now- using a walker and have a shoe boot on my foot- Any fall is serious and I hope Maria you are going to be ok soon. Have patience and get well.
