Catching Fate is Zinnia’s Holy Grail and obsession, at the moment, it is the most important thing in her life. Every morning, we go out to the pasture, and Fate launches into her sweeping, speeding outruns, she is built like a cheetah, she runs fast, long and wide.
Zinnia has her stumpy puppy eggs and floppy ears, she is not built to run, but to plow through swamps looking for dead ducks. Still every morning, she sets out after Fate and tries desperately to catch her.
She can’t catch her, she never will catch her, but she is undeterred and never discouraged. Zinnia runs as long as she can and as fast as she can. Unfortunately, Fate can run twice as fast and three times farther.
Border collies have small nuclear reactors built into their legs. Zinnia hasn’t got a chance, but she never quits. Perhaps one day I can get Fate to lie down and let Zinnia catch up with her. It would boost her confidence.
Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow.
