I saved this photo today for me end-of-day Smile photo. Zinnia never seems to run out of smile moments. She and Bud are the best of pals, they are almost always together in the farmhouse, and the trust between them only grows.
I can’t imagine Bud letting another animal put their head on him and sleep a year ago, he would have jumped out of his shoes. And I can’t imagine Fate permitting it for a second.
But these two trust each other. They share treats, bring each other gifts and curl up together by the fire. In between, they play tug of war and hide-and-seek. I am happy that each found the other. And I can’t stop smiling at this photograph.
Me too! It made my evening!!
I wonder if Bud will still like being a pillow when Zinnia weighs 60 pounds! Probably… ?
Awwww. Such a sweet picture of contented dogs. As you know and always say, there is no way us mere humans can ever REALLY know what our animals are thinking. But, as I look a Bud, I would like to think that he knows that he is one lucky pup to have been adopted into a loving family and is passing that love on to Zinnia.
It certainly does make one smile. What a beautiful, loving, peaceful scene!
This photo truly made me smile. I had kind of a tough day yesterday and saw this right before I went to bed. So wonderful and made me feel goodI think it helped me sleep batter too. ?. Thank you!
Jon your joy is contagious when you talk about your dogs! The love you show them, and them for you is awesome; that love is reciprocal.
I have a new Labrador puppy whom I wish could be a therapy dog; the kind that children who have difficulty reading can read to, but I doubt that I can train Oliver the way you have trained Zinnia. Maybe he will just be a love dog without the bonus of giving to others; he may be too distractable. At eight months he doesn’t show his calm side–if indeed he has one. He is sweet, intelligent and fun. He gets along well with my senior Sheltie, Henry. He probably wishes Henry were younger and would play with him more. They played a lot more when Ollie first came home; now I see that they may be somewhat competitive for attention. Ollie seems to love Henry, but it is not returned the same way. I’ve never had a big dog although Ollie may turn out to be a mini, so this is new territory for me. I’m still trying to find my energy level to meet his. At any rate you are a great role model and for years I have learned a lot from you.
Your books and the blog are educational, interesting and a pure pleasure. After all of these years (and I started reading your books way back when you, Julius and Stanley first came to the “country,” I’m still learning from you.
Your children’s books have been great gifts to little ones that I love. Thank you for the light you bring to my life.
