It seems that dogs have been coming and going for much of my life. But there is one thread that has always touched me and inspired me: I’ve always had generous dogs.
Pearl welcomed Izzy, Lenore welcomed Red (and Frieda) Red welcome Fate (see above photo), Fate welcomed Bud, and Bud protected Red and has welcomed Zinnia.
These generous and loving spirits have infused our lives with affection and connection. Fate was a hellish puppy she was never still, and Red growled at her once or twice, but put up with a lot of torment.
I saw Zinnia gnawing on Bud’s head tonight, and he took it graciously. Bud was an angel to Red when he was sick, even to protect him from the sheep. Zinnia and Bud are inseparable, his patience is almost infinite.
Fate is not really a generous spirit, but she’ll come around. She just doesn’t give it away.
Eloquently, succinctly, passionately expressed.
Jon,
Thank you so much for the thoughts and photos of all the dogs. So good to see Red again and the photo of him and Fate was precious! Wishing you and Maria and all the animals a healthy and fulfilled New Year!
Jon, great writing. Thank you. Scott and I just saw the movie Fantastic Fungi at our local independent theater. I felt it was uplifting and showed how powerful and healing Nature is. And reminded me that Nature is more intelligent than we give her credit for. She knows how to heal and restore. I believe she is our inspiration and leader. The film spoke to the healing powers mushrooms use to heal the earth from human wrought devastation. I highly recommend this film. 100% Rotten Tomatoes.
Living through two apocalyptic fires in northern California, we witness every day after the fires, the healing and abundance of nature. Wildflowers bloom, the earth births life from the ashes. If we dont wake up, we might not be here but Life will live on.
Thanks Janet, I miss your writing.you have a lot of gifts…including a great heart..
