Melak, the extraordinary young refugee both from Iraq and Syria, has signed up as one of Zinnia’s Godmothers. Melak has a huge heart, that’s the only criteria for signing up.

Zinnia’s Godmother Circle of Love is expanding rapidly, she has a ring of great-hearted people around her, at least 50 of whom I’ve never met.

The Circle Of Love idea is growing on me, I can feel the strength of it.

Melak is one of the most impressive students I’ve met at Bishop Maginn High School or anywhere else. She has overcome unimaginable hardship and faced death and violence close-up, she has emerged with great strength and compassion.

She is a student in my Writing Workshop and one of Zinnia’s seven therapy dog coaches at Bishop Maginn. She’s a junior at the high school.

We’re honored to have her in the Circle of Love.
