Poem: Crazy Has Places To Hide In

by Jon Katz

Crazy has places to hide in

I’m old and the mirrors don’t lie

I needed to find a better job than fear

I needed to become a brush

in the hand of the sun

It is hard to be crazy,

is it worse to be well?

Crazy has places to hide in,

normal has nowhere to go

I needed for the earth to sing

through my heart.

Where my sweet dog

is usually sleeping,

I feel the wonder of light

Crazy has places to hide in

Normal has no space to lie.

– By me, Jon Katz, and with thanks to Leonard Cohen for inspiring this poem with his own wonderful poem “Crazy To Love You.”
