I took Zinnia out on our first walk together yesterday, on a country road near our home. She did well, walking easily alongside of me, only pulling once or twice. It is very important to teach her how to walk calmly and by my side now, it will be much harder when she weights 60 or 70 lbs.
We are bonding a bit more every day and that is making the training fun and promising. With a dog like this, it would be criminal not to train her well, lovingly, patiently and every day. We can do great things together.
We did some training yesterday it went well, but as soon as I saw Zinnia losing focus, I stopped. I always want to end training on a high note. Come and see us working on “stay.” This one will take a while.
I shall make a critical comment. Since Zinnia broke her stay quite a few times in this training session, my own opinion is that you are pushing her a little too quickly on the stay – either shorten the stay or shorten the distance you are moving away from her. Remember that you want her to succeed so that you can reward her success. Once she is solidly staying at a particular time and distance, increase one or the other, but not both at the same time. She’s doing great for her age!
This photo is really cool. Love the the way your clothes blend with nature.
What a gorgeous blue sky. Your training techniques have been successful on how many dogs? Keep on…
