Snow Dog

by Jon Katz

Zinnia is a natural snow dog, as most Labs are. There are already three or four inches on the ground and she had a great romp through the snow, sniffing the ground, rubbing her nose into the snow, racing back and forth.

Her buddy Bud is not a snow dog, and he dreads going outside in rain, snow or ice. Zinnia is going to have fun up here.

  1. Our Lab/heeler loves the snow! Corina is 8 months old and this is her first experience. We got about 7 inches of snow and she romped and rolled like she was in heaven. However our 18 month old Wheaton terrier mix Escher runs out, does his business and either comes back in or retreats to the barn. A snowy field is not his idea of fun. It is fun to see our pups different reactions to everyday life! Your photos and writings are uplifting and thought provoking.

  2. Lab puppies are irresistible!!!! Especially when they have snow on their faces! You’ve got a great new addition to your
family and farm. —At the beach in California and raining heavily for last few days. My sweet, sweet, smart poodle mix rescue will barely go out to pee! She’s more continent than me! Have a great Holiday season!

  3. We got 8 inches here in central New Mexico and my now 5-month old Welsh Terrier puppy got her introduction to snow. Thought I’d never get her back inside. I loved it because she wore herself out running/hopping through it all day. But here it’s gone in a day or 2; cannot imagine dealing with the winters where you are. I don’t have Maria to help!
