I’ve been living with donkeys for 15 years, and never once in all of that time have I given a donkey a dog treat or have they asked for one or wanted one. Lulu is a very picky creature, she turns up her nose at anything that is not green and fresh and not handled by humans.
She’s a food snob. Today, for the first time ever, she came up me with her pleading and irresistible eyes and let me know she was ready to try a biscuit.
Our donkeys have manners, they are never pushy or demanding. If you turn away from them, they leave you alone. But I know Lulu and I know when she really wants something.
So I gave her a treat, and then Fanny, seeing this, came over and gave me her moon eyes as well. They know I am a sucker for that. The donkeys loved the crunch little treat, they chewed it for a long time.
Bud was concerned, he came running over, but I had some leftovers for him. I’m sticking with alfalfa cubes and big fat carrots, but it’s good to know dog biscuits are acceptable as well. Donkeys are inscrutable, Lulu may never ask again and she might ask every time.
I am hard-pressed to say no to Lulu
Just this week I read a column in the great somewhere, that opined the reason dogs are so successful at living with humans is that they have an extra muscle that enables them to do the “sad puppy look”. Clearly, Lulu didn’t read the column. So, “Awwwwww”
Gave my dogs horse treats/biscuits. They loved them. But they are 100lb monsters (Pyrenees) . They’ll eat anything.
We have 3 Pyrenees as well!!! Yes they are not finicky eaters. They are awesome dogs too have around
