Another big win for the Army Of Good. Thank you.
I just came from an early morning meeting at the Mansion, and I’m happy to report the Break Room renovation is going very well. We are almost done.
The Mansion has decided to ask their electrician/contractor to install two new outlets and a baseboard heater.
Kathleen’s $200 check will come in handy, thanks.
A highly-rated new mini-refrigerator for $169 is arriving today, along with a Keurig coffee-maker for $79. Carolyn, a member of the Army Of Good, sent a 6 .8 foot carpet (we measured) which arrived yesterday.
She had it shipped from a shop in California.
The table and chairs I bought last week are in place, and Maria came over with a wall hanging she created. I purchased two paintings, both bright and colorful, to go up on the walls.
I bought an aluminum vase with paper yellow orchids to brighten the table.
There is no room for another chair, we have the one soft reclining chair for the aides to sit in.
The refrigerator will make it possible to store milk for coffee and has space to keep sandwiches fresh, their drinks cool.
When the outlets are in, we’ll install a wooden table and old stained glass lamp I got at an antique store in town.
The lamp has been re-wired. I got the table and chair for $25, all told, that was about $500.
We don’t need any permits or inspections, the wiring should be simple and relatively inexpensive – $300 to $500, as I estimated.
We don’t need a regular air conditioner, we don’t need radiant heating or a gofundme page.
In the warmer weather, I’ll buy a portable room air conditioner, the room space is small, the room is insulated and we purchased about 15 room air conditioners for the residents over the past two years.
They all work well.
Those have worked well to cool the rooms in the Mansion, they should easily handle the Break Room.
The aides are grateful and excited. Kassi, the Mansion Director, wanted to surprise the staff, but there are few secrets at the Mansion. Word is spreading.
So I think we are in great shape, and as many of you have pointed out, this is very important in a workspace like the Mansion.
The staff really needs a private space to have lunch or dinner, and just relax a bit. This is a small act of great kindness.
I’m sure I’ll need a few more things for the Break Room when it’s finished, if you wish to contribute any amount, that would be great: Via Paypal, it’s [email protected], by check, Jon Katz, Break Room, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.
This morning, I brought six pairs of wool winter socks for Nancy. I brought a dozen pairs of Halloween socks for the aides and their children. I have three large print books for Wayne, and three used jigsaw puzzles for Peggie.
Tonight, I’m bringing Nancy and Georgiann winter boots, and I’m getting a bassinet for Ellen to put one of her baby dolls in at night. She’s worried her doll won’t get enough rest.
This is such a lovely thing being done. One small item I would suggest – and electric tea kettle. Not everyone drinks coffee. Wish I had the spare money to send
Good idea, Kathryn, I’ll do it..
