Meet Issachar and Asher, Our New Wool Sheep

by Jon Katz

Our new wool sheep are beautiful, their wool a rich dark brown/black. They are both wethers (neutered males) and easy with sheep and people.

This is why we are here, really, to have sheep and donkeys and shear them and care for them.

I miss being a shepherd but love our lives on the farm. Shearing is one of our favorite rituals, it gives dimension and richness to our lives.

And Maria is very serious about selling fine yarn.

I think she plans to take more advance orders for the yarn, but she’ll talk about that. This is a good day for Bedlam Farm.

Asher and Issachar are named for two quite wonderful young men, both students at Bishop Maginn High School. They have overcome a lot with grace and compassion and creativity, I am proud to know them.

And those are great sheep names.
