I guess Bud is my Bud. We nap together, and several times a day, he just hops up onto my lap for a scratch or a pat on the head. Lately, we’ve taken to meditating together.
When Bud hears the gong, he jumps up onto my lap, puts his head on my shoulder, and go to sleep.
Small dogs can enter our private and intimate spaces, they can connect with us in a way that big dogs can’t. I was as close to Red as I have been to any dog, but I rarely touched him, or even spoke to him.
He would have been horrified to jump into my lap while I napped or meditated. I wouldn’t have liked it much myself.
We get close to our dogs in different ways. Some by hunting, some by walking, some by sitting close to one another in the night. But is a warrior outside, a teddy bear inside.
Somehow, this was something I needed that I didn’t know I needed. I am eager to see how Zinnia and I connect. It will not be by jumping into my lap, that’s for sure.
Bud and I had a hard and challenging first year together, we winded up being the best of Buds. He pays attention to me, follows me around, sits in my study while I wrote and today hopped up for some attention.
Maria had her iPhone handy. I guess the photo tells the story.
Zinnia might just jump into your lap (if you let her). My friend has a lab that loves to get on my sofa and “curl up” in my lap. Enjoy!
I love this photo with both of you looking at the camera. Snuggle on Bud!
Re: Zinnia: “It will not be by jumping into my lap, that’s for sure.”
Every time I think a statement like that, even if I just keep it in my head, I soon enough learn that somewhere in the Universe, someone is chuckling. But I AM sure you’ll help Zinnia learn to be the best she can be.
Sounds like Bud is a really sweet boy. I have always had small dogs but some of them are more affectionate and want more attention than others. Just like people, digs have different personalities and needs from their people, I think.
