Leaf On A Spider Web, Cont.

by Jon Katz

A few days ago, I noticed a leaf caught in a web on the side of the red barn, and I took a photo of this very common and insignificant act of nature. As I look around, I see leaves trapped in spider webs almost everywhere.

We don’t realize how many spiders are out there until there’s dew on the ground. Small acts of nature can be as beautiful as larger acts of nature, I’m just so used to them, I don’t see them.

I found this one way up near the roof, I was on a ladder cleaning leaves out of the gutter. It looks like a sculpture to me, one of those macro installations I might see in a museum.

I hope I die as well as leaves do. And I wonder what the spider makes of this giant and inedible intrusion onto his or her art work.
