The Very Colorful Bedlam Farm Yarn Has Arrived!

by Jon Katz

It was a big day for Maria and our sheep and Bedlam Farm. Maria got her yarn today.

Maria and I drove to the Adirondack Wool And Yarn Festival today at the Washington County Fair Grounds today to meet Deb of the Vermont Knitting Mill and pick up the wool we dropped off five or six months ago.

This is the wool from our Spring Shearing.

It’s one of the most important rituals for us on the farm, it reminds us why we are here. It’s also a big financial investment for Maria, something she loves doing and feels is important for us to do.

We expect to shear the sheep again next Month, October. They are ready and will have plenty of time to re-grow their heavy winter coats.

It gives meaning to the sheep’s presence here, and she loves the enthusiasm of the weavers and knitters of the world.

Maria was ecstatic, there are more different colors than ever before, and they are richer, softer,  and more beautiful.

She also got four natural white skeins from Zelda, the last yarn she will ever produce. Zelda’s yarn is probably already spoken for.

Zelda only produced four skeins in the whole year, but it is quite lovely, her way of saying goodbye, I think.

Maria is going through the yarn tonight and Sunday and figuring out what to charge, she will be putting the yarn up for sale on Monday on her Etsy Shop. And writing about it on her blog.

If you have any questions, you can e-mail her at: [email protected].

  1. Oh yay! I am not a knitter but have friends & family who are, and your wool makes amazing gifts! I look forward to seeing it on Etsy!
