I’m publishing a series of portraits and scenes from Bishop Maginn High School, I want to show the faces of the refugee children we are helping.
This crew is lovingly called The Gang Of Four, they are good and popular students, but like many teenage boys, prone to mischief. I loved the sight of them sitting up on the shelves in the art room, full of themselves and happy.
At lunchtime, they all come to hang out in Sue Silverstein’s class. She kids they have devilish gleams in their eyes sometimes.
Their faces belie the stories of their lives at times, it is a pleasure to see them so at peace. Their names are Moo, Hae Kay, Yah Boe, Endie.
Update on the Free Pizza Lunch Program. I have enough money to fund three monthly Free Lunch Pizzas – everyone in the school gets free pizza slices and salad, especially those who can’t afford to buy a slice.
It costs $200 a lunch, I bought the first one, I got donations for the second two. That brings us into December. I’d like to go through May, so I can continue fundraising month by month or get enough contributions to pay the school lunch company at once and help them plan ahead.
About one-half of the school’s students can’t afford school supplies, let alone pizza.
If you wish to contribute I’m looking for approximately $800 more dollars to get us almost through the school year. I’ll pay for the rest.
You can donate via Paypal, [email protected], or by check, Jon Katz, Pizza Lunch, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816. Thanks. I was a bit painful to see kids missing out on their $2.50 pizza slices, some just can’t afford it. I think a slice of pizza is a human right!
Also, please keep in mind that the Bishop Maginn High School Wish List is giving all of you rest, but there are two items up there, gift cards for $10 and $25. Please consider purchasing one or the other if you can.
Please take a look, the small donations add up.
