I came across this photo of Gus and Fate playing together in the yard. Fate tried to do everything but assassinate Gus when he first came, but after a few weeks, she adopted him as her playmate and yard companion.
The two were not allowed to play in the house but went at it non-stop in the yard. I think of Gus pretty often, death is bad enough but when such a young life is cut short, it hurts in a particular way.
Red got to live a long and meaningful life. Gus never got that chance.
Gus always looked like a real sweetheart. It is too bad about the little guy’s poor health and early demise, but Bud certainly has stepped up to the plate and become a new playmate for energetic Fate!
