A Birthday Skeleton For Robin

by Jon Katz

Last week was Robin’s third birthday, I couldn’t be there for the parties, but was there in spirit. I got her a toy fish tank with water and swimming colorful fish (not real) that she likes a lot, and Emma said she kept asking for a skeleton, which she wasn’t sure about giving her.

So I found one online and shipped it to her. Robin and I are communicating very well these days, we have found ways to talk to each other. I’m also sending her a love poster with two skeletons holding hands.

I think we are tapping into each other.

  1. This is what grandfathers are for. Buying the gifts kids really, really want but their parents think are “weird”. Good job!

  2. You have the gift, Jon. That is the fun of being a grandparent for me. Tapping into the child in the child and in you and sharing that without all the concerns of being a parent. It is so much fun. And look at Robin’s face. It says it all.

  3. I love it! Miss Robin meets Miss Mary, from Mepaw.
Robin seems to be one terrific little girl who I think “tapped into you” a long time ago, Jon!
She reminds me of a future Maura Isles, Temperance Brennan, real life Kathy Reichs…and on and on! Nothing holding her back!
