B&W Magazine: “Heal”

by Jon Katz

My wish for today was to get some trees on sale to go around the farmhouse, a Labor Day tradition for us; to get a whole belly clam dinner at Jean’s Place, and to wander around with my Monochrome (black and white) camera and take some still life pictures.

I achieved all three goals, a great start for the holiday weekend (we took our garbage to the dump, too). Maria is making some potholders tonight, I’m putting up a B&White magazine.

Still, a peaceful and healing day. I love our “Heal” sign which hangs up on the back porch, but I couldn’t quite remember how it came about. It was hung four or five years ago, a lot has happened between then and now.

Our friend Tyler, who used to help us manage the crowds at our Open Houses, made this as a “Parking Sign,” with that lettering. The paint faded, and I suggested to Maria that we re-paint it – painting “Heal” on it, and hang it on the back porch.

I’m not sure where that idea came from, but I think I was very concerned with the idea of “healing,” both for me and for Maria. It’s been hanging there ever since and is right for the times.

I liked this floral/vase line up for a still life. Lots of feeling. I’m going to put a B&W album up on Facebook, the Jon Katz page. The shot was taken with a monochrome camera and a very old Zeiss 85 mm lens.
