This is Red’s new home, I think it is the loveliest spot on the farm, just beneath the old apple tree in the pasture, across from the Pole Barn, Red loved to sit upon that hill and survey his kingdom and his responsibilities.
When I went out to visit him, the sky just opened up on me, and shortly, turned dark and stormy.
Bedlam Farm without Red is a different place, for better and for worse, and I have to think about what that means when some time goes by.
Some people are already asking if we want another dog, but it’s too soon to know that or even to think about it much. Red cast a big shadow. I’m quite pleased that we decided to bury him here, it really does feel like he hasn’t left altogether.
And I am immensely grateful to the people who chose to honor him by sending contributions so that we can buy Ipads for the teachers at Bishop Maginn High School.
By tomorrow or Monday, I will surely have enough money to do that, and if there is any overage, it will go to the school and its many needs. I am proud of Red, it is a wonderful gift for his death to do good to some people who need it and deserve it. Red’s spirit is strong and is certainly still here.
You chose to honor him in this way, and you did, and still are, and I thank you.
