At the farmer’s market, I heard the most graceful and beautiful guitar music and I looked over to see Barry Hyman, a well known and much loved local musician and songwriter, singing under a tent, a student playing alongside him and working with him under a tent.
The young musician seemed intent and skilled and Barry whispered encouragement and advice to him. This, I thought, is what teaching should be.
The tableau seemed touching to me, and the music was lovely, a gentle background to our little farmer’s market, where there are beautiful, artisan vegetables, fruit, and bread every Sunday.
Barry is the son of Shirley Jackson, a famous author who lived in nearby North Bennington and wrote popular short stories and fiction, including The Haunting Of Hill House.
I walked away with the strange idea that I would like to take guitar lessons, and learn to play. I suspect it’s too late for that, but the idea is buzzing around in my head.
Do it! Never too late, and it’s good for the brain to learn a new skill!
It’s nearly impossible to find knowledgeable people for this subject, but you seem like you know what you’re talking about!
Thanks
