Today Maria and I head off to Bishop Maginn High School in Albany, we have lots to do there.
I want to talk about the ides of my teaching a six-week writing course at the school for promising student writers. They would each come up with an idea about Bishop Maginn, they’d write the stories, I’d edit them and we’d self-publish them as a paperback book to benefit the school.
I’d do the photographs and an intro. Sue Silverstein likes the idea.
I was supposed to meet with a new and promising student who needs tuition help, but she couldn’t be there today. I want to raise about $2,000 to get her into the school. A generous donor sent me a $1,000 tuition aid check which I’m bringing to the school today.
We want to meet with Sue and the young artists to propose that they set up an Etsy Page to sell the art Sue and Blue and Paw Lway Shee and the others are creating and that I am not selling.
I’m bringing a load of stuff for Issachar, Blue and Asher – sweatbands, bracelets, books and T-shirts.
I don’t want to stay in the art sales business and they should have some ownership of the work they are creating and the sometimes laborious process of selling art. I think we got them started, now it’s time for them to fly. Sue would supervise the page, I think it could do very well.
I would, of course, promote it on the blog.
I’m also seeking funds to buy one more air conditioner for the Mansion, one unit has broken down and more heat is on the way.
I need $300 this week, I have $100. If you want to help, you can send a contribution to me via Paypal, [email protected] or by check, Jon Katz, Mansion Fund, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816. Small donations are welcome.
I’m’ going to try to bring Red
