I don’t know if Jim is sleeping on the porch at night – the word is he lies out there briefly to listen to the frogs and look at the moon but doesn’t sleep there all night.
He also takes his afternoon naps there, where he is visible to the aides inside. Jim thanks the Army of Good for buying a comfortable and adjustable lounge on wheels. It’s important to him to be able to sleep outside.
He doesn’t mind bugs, and some of the other residents can use it as well.
I got one air conditioner for Georgina and Becky, but I learned today that we need one more, for Alanna, whose room is also upstairs. I’d like to get the same kind, a RolliCool for $299.99, guaranteed for a year, and a heat exhaust tube for the window for $29.
There is another heatwave coming next week and I’m going to try to get the floor unit (can’t do window units upstairs) before then.) Everyone who needs an air conditioner now has one or will have when Alanna gets one, thanks to the two-year program of the Army Of Good.
The summers are getting warmer here, as everywhere else, and the elderly feel it as much or more than anyone else.
I could use some help on this one, if you want to help, please send a contribution to me via Paypal, [email protected], or by check, Jon Katz, Mansion Fund, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816.
Thanks much. I had a great time reading to the residents today, books with big and beautiful photographs or paintings seem to be their favorite things, they are also loving non-fiction reporting and essays by Nobel Laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
