Maria and I met with Mansion Director Kassi Garmley this morning, we brought the eight framed paintings from Bishop Maginn High School Art Teacher Sue Silverstein and hung almost all of them in the brand new white-walled Memory Care Activity Center, which is dedicated to the Army Of Good.
Sue’s paintings are quite beautiful and perfect for the center, they are bright, colorful and soothing. Kassi and Maria figured out where the paintings ought to go and hung them.
The good news is that they looked beautiful on those new walls. The bad news is that we need a lot more. None of the 10 bedrooms in the center have much on the walls and we need a couple more for the Activity Room itself.
We went to look at the rooms – spacious and beautifully designed – and I figure we need from 10 to 12 paintings. I’ve asked Sue if she might paint a few more – the ones today were donated, but I would insist on paying her for any others.
The hallways have paintings of rural landscapes.
We’ll take our time, my plan is to collect some paintings – the refugee students want to paint some – and frame them gradually over the next five or six months. We’ll do two or three at a time.
I liked seeing Kassi and Maria working together to hang the paintings. Two strong and caring women.
Sue’s paintings are perfect for the center, which is a beautiful and comfortable facility for people with memory loss. The center is waiting for final state approval, it can be a long process.
It is fun to work with Kassi, she is partly responsible for the warm and caring feeling of the Mansion. It seems the tone is set at the top. Thanks for supporting the framing of these paintings, we used it all up Sunday framing this beautiful batch.
