There is a new Bishop Maginn High School Wish List, it is small and inexpensive, you can do a lot of good for as little as $4 or as much as $24.99.
I bought three spiral notebooks this morning for a total of $27. Some people jog or meditate in the morning, I like to buy something on a non-profit Wish List. It feels good to do good.
I’m meeting with Bishop Maginn High School officials this week to explore ways we can help the school with tuition, this seems to be their biggest looming problem now that we had helped them with school, science and technology supplies.
The school doesn’t turn anyone away over tuition, but they need to get some payment in some form regularly. The amount seems to be flexible. This is their greatest challenge, because tuition is the primary source of income for schools like Bishop Maginn High School.
If you need the mailing address for the school for Amazon, it’s Bishop Maginn High School, 75 Park Avenue, Albany, N.Y., 12202, 518 463 2247.
As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, there was only one item left on the list.
I’m hoping we can start a tuition fund (one blog reader sent a check for $10,000 last week) to help individual refugee children get into the school and stay in the school. That really helped two young women get into the school for the Fall.) I think there is some flexibility here, I want to find out what the boundaries are. More later.
In the meantime check out this list of urgently needed school supplies (there is a desperate need at the school for paper products – tissues, toilet paper, etc.) Check out the Wish List if you can. It is small and inexpensive.
???? The only thing on the list now is the notebooks.
Yup, they almost sold out..just a few $6.99 things left..bless the Army Of Good..
Yes, but you mentions toilet paper and other paper goods.
Toilet paper, paper towels and tissues..
Jon, here’s a question. I guess a somewhat sensitive one. Do we need a feminine products list? If the students are that poor, are any girls missing school because of not having enough money for that?
Thanks Joan, but no, i don’t think we need that, if there is a need, the teachers will talk to me and we’ll deal with it privately, as we have been doing.. It would be very painful and difficult for these girls to discuss that with me or solicit funds publicly. Toilet and paper goods means tissues, paper towels and toilet paper.
