I did not realize until this week how much joy and good feeling I could unleash by asking people to share images of their pets on my blog. More than 2,000 people responded with images of their dogs last week.

I got scores of messages from cat lovers begging me to do the same things with cats.This is not a regular feature on this blog, it is perhaps the most popular thing I’ve ever done here.

It also gives me a chance to share your animals in the same way you have shared mine. That is very good for me personally and for my blog. Interactivity can do more than teach people how to be hateful and snide. Let’s keep it going. I have many more dog traits to share on the blog.

Pets still live and are loved above the hateful din of politics and polarization. There are no “left” or “right” cats, no demagogues, opportunists or blockhead dogs. No lobbyists buying up our elected leaders.

This is still something that unites us, and that alone makes it work doing here, thanks. Time to get started. Perhaps dogs and cats can do what politicians seem unable to do – unite us.
