Maria and I went to Jean’s Place in Hoosick Falls for breakfast, she had the oat bran pancakes, I had eggs and potatoes, I brought my Canon to take a picture of Robin, a fixture in my Strong Women (and good people) series.
As we were leaving, I picked up the camera – Robin was cleaning the next table – and I said “how about a quickie, Robin?”
The whole diner cracked up when I said that, Robin was laughing out loud and the men at the stools were falling over themselves, guffawing and telling their neighbors what I had said.
For a minute or two I didn’t get it, and then the lights came on, and I realized what the term stood for to many people – including everybody in the restaurant.
“Oh,” I said lamely, “now I got it.’
I’ve never used the myself, I guess I had a sheltered life, but it was funny, and I did get my shot of Robin. I love the mischievous twinkle in Robin’s eye.
