I am pleased to report that I’ve added another strong woman to my other portraits of strong women I have met. I think Sue may well be one of those angels hiding out in offices and schools, pretending to be a mortal human.
She does a lot of good. I believe in angels, I think they are out there watching over us and challenging us and inspiring us to be good and do good. Sue is a transmitter of good, one of these teachers who students return year after year to tell her how she changed their lives or got them through some awful nightmares.
She has been tremendously helpful – central – in the work we are doing at Bishop Maginn High School. So has Principal Mike Tolan, they always put the children first.
She as an elfin streak and is always on the lookout for ways to do good. Her portrait captures her sweet and rueful nature. She might well be an angel, although she would or will blush to read that.
Like the very best teachers, she has helped countless children in her 22 years. They listen to hear and they trust her. You can e-mail her at [email protected].
Sue is a devoted wife and mother, but her heart is very full of teaching. All summer, she comes into her classroom and opens it up for kids who have nowhere else to go and want to drawn and paint.
She doesn’t get paid for this and until the Army Of Good showed up, she was paying for art supplies out of her own pocket. When she ran out of money, the art stopped. Now, the art is flowing like the Nile.
I love taking photographs of strong women with character, I learned right away that if I take photos of people I like or love, they turn out.
