Asher’s Poems: “Thoughts Of A Supernova,” More Stuff

by Jon Katz

(Issachar, left, Asher, right)

I’m going to Albany this morning to see the Silverstein Art Brigade at the Bishop Maginn High School. I go weekly, at least once.

We have a lot of things to talk about.

I need to bring money for Blue and Paw Lway Shee, to hear Asher read me his new poem, to bring some gifts to Sue and the twins and her band of creatives, so talk about ways we can support the school.

I want to finish the laptop drive and begin a campaign to buy some school supplies for September, most of the students have no supplies and no money to buy them.

I’m  happy to report the school now has the 22 microscopes they requested to bring science teaching back to children who want and need it. Thanks, Army Of Good.

There is one laptop left on the Bishop Maginn Amazon Wish List, another eight or nine to buy after that. Desperately needed things. There is one laptop on the list, and you can do a lot by buying a $10 Amazon Gift Card. Thanks.

Red is coming, this is an important part of my life now, I love Sue and these kids, and the school itself.

Asher is turned onto poetry now, I think, he seems a natural poet to me.

Here is his first poem, which I hope to get him to read on a video today:

Asher’s Poem:

Thoughts Of A Supernova”

By Asher

There was a star,

alone,

The start had been through all parts of space.

it had grown accustomed to the dark…

Even through those dark times.

It’s shone brightly.

Its light was only for other’s however,

the light wasn’t for itself….

The stars core was empty from all it had gone through.

The stars tears were forever left in the universe,

though nothing saw it cry…

It wanted to burn out by its own will,

but didn’t want to put out the light of others.

Now,

the star’s light is fading, but not by its own tail,

The star was happy it made others happy,

even if it was never happy itself..

but only in its final moments…

Goodbye.”

I’m bringing Asher two more volumes of poetry today.
