I’m going to visit the Bishop Maginn High School Wednesday to visit the Silverstein Art Brigade. Blue and Paw Lway Shee had earned some money from the sale of their beautiful paintings.
The Bishop Maginn Wish List is proving to be a popular and successful move, a favored way among the Army Of Good to contribute. Between donations I got over the weekend and this morning and some Amazon Gift Cards, I’ll be able to purchase two laptop computers for the school tomorrow (when the checks clear) and perhaps a microscope or two.
We also bought some art and other school supplies over the last few weeks.
My goal is for the school to have enough laptops – 26 – to fill up a computer room, and 20 microscopes for the science classes. We will help restore Bishop Maginn to the modern world, they have had a few tough years, they are on the rebound, and are a vital refugee for these gifted refugee students.
Your small and larger donations are really helping to meet this goal, I hope to achieve it by September, along with a new or used keyboard for the choir (later) and school supplies for September.
Some people have bought the laptops outright – the cost about $200, others are buying the $10 and $25 gift cards, we’ve raised more than $300 from the gift cards, and that is enough for another laptop.
We’ve passed the halfway mark for the laptops and the microscopes, that is astonishing for two weeks, blessing to the Army Of Good. There are only two laptops left on this Wish List – we need eight or nine more laptops – and we need seven more microscopes.
The computers are a bargain now – $200 apiece – and the microscopes are $89.99. Until two weeks ago, there was not a laptop or working microscope for these children in the school. These are tools they desperately need.
I’m starting to get a nice stream of smaller donations, if it keeps up, I’ll be able to purchase more laptops over the summer. Thanks. (via Paypal, it’s [email protected], or by check, Jon, Mansion/Refugee Fund, P.O. Box 205, Cambridge, N.Y., 12816).
You can also send tax-deductible contributions to Bishop Maginn High School, care of Mike Tolan, 75 Park Avenue, Albany, N.Y., 12203. The Wish List seems a popular way for people to contribute, they control what they buy and how much they spend and they know where every penny of it goes.
I respect that some people prefer to send the money through me, I am humbled by that trust, and will make sure the money goes just where it is supposed to go.
Please check out the Wish List. Here, $10 goes a long way. Thank you.
