We bought our “Gay Head” in Provincetown, Mass. during a vacation there a few years ago. The man who sold him to us said he wasn’t named “Gay Head” in honor of gay men or women, but in honor of Gay Head Lighthouse and Gay Head Cliffs in Aquinnah on Martha’s Vineyard.
I’ve been there a few times, the light there was built by order of the first Continental Congress in 1789, it’s a gorgeous place. In the winter our Gay Head lives in my study by the window, no flowers.
In the Spring, Maria moves him out to the back porch and yesterday she got some Petunia’s for him for his summer stay. I think we love cliffs, we still talk about George O’Keefe’s white cliffs and Our Gay Head always reminds me of the beautiful cliffs at Aquinnah.
He looks serious but contemplative.
