Zelda’s Last Summer

by Jon Katz

One way or another, I think this will be Zelda’s last summer, if not her last season. She is eating, getting a daily grain supplement, but more and more I see her off by herself – always telling forĀ  sheep. I don’t think she will be alive for too much longer, but if she is alive in October, we’ll put her down, we don’t want to subject her to another winter, the last one was rough for her, she lost an alarming around of weight.

Zelda is our oldest, smartest and most independent. She was the clear leader until she got too long, happy to turn the helm over the Romneys.

Sheep rarely lie sideways like this, Zelda is spending more and more time on her side in recent weeks. She won’t even move for Red unless he stands right over, and Red, being a gentleman, doesn’t bother her or try to make her move. He knows.
